Writing Workshop

4th grade bilingual students, parents and even some grandparents participated in a Writing Workshop Tuesday evening February 17th.   Each student and their parents were given this writing prompt.  "Write about a time you were courageous". Before getting started each fourth grader explained their 6 step process of writing a composition.

·   First, they come up with an Interesting Beginning using Action, Thought, Question, Sound or Dialogue.

·   Details on the Setting of the story.

·   Suspense leading to the Main Event.

·   The Main Event or Body of the composition.

·  The last two paragraphs consist of a conclusion paragraph and the final paragraph is written as an Extended Ending about a memory or what they learned from their experience.

"I had no idea it was this difficult to write a story!", was the reaction from one mom.  Parents and grandparents were challenged by the children to write their own composition about a time in their lives they had to be brave or show courage. Students and parents exchanged ideas, shared experiences and spent some valuable time together.
